2016-17 NM Teacher of the Year (Advisor to the Superintendent)
David Morales is in his eleventh year as a social studies teacher at Mayfield High School. In addition to his other roles teaching and coaching throughout the district, Morales has received numerous recognitions including: being named a Character Counts Teacher of the Year Finalist, receiving the Excellence for Student Achievement Award from the Las Cruces Public Schools Board, being named the 2015-2016 Las Cruces Public Schools Teacher of the Year, receiving The Bridge of Excellence Award and being inducted as a Bridge Academy of Excellence Fellow and most recently, being recognized as an American Graduate Champion by KRWG-TV and The Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Cheryl Carreon has been a special education or primary grade level teacher for the past 26 years. She is currently a preschool teacher for developmentally delayed children at East Picacho Elementary School. Carreon was selected from among 52 LCPS teachers nominated for this year’s prestigious award.
