The Las Cruces Public Schools welcomes and encourages all parents and citizens of Las Cruces to volunteer their time in our schools. In order to protect our students, volunteers must comply with Las Cruces Public Schools’ Board of Education policy #208.
The policy requires volunteers to complete all forms included in the Volunteer Packet. These include:
- Volunteer Information Sheet - Complete, date and sign this sheet. Take it to the school principal or location supervisor for approval. The principal/supervisor signature must appear in the top right-hand corner of the Information Sheet.
- LCPS Policy Forms - Read and sign four LCPS policies: Drug Free Workplace; Child Abuse and Neglect; Sexual Harassment; and Internet Use. Optional training classes are held monthly on these policies. Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you are interested, please contact the Human Resources Department
- Criminal History Affidavit / State & Federal Background Checks must be completed for by anyone who volunteers for LCPS more than five times in one school semester or who chaperones at one or more school events.
Complete and sign the Criminal History Affidavit. Attach a money order or bank cashier’s check, made out to the N.M. Department of Public Safety, in the amount of $44.00. Bring the Affidavit and the $44.00 to the Human Resources Department, along with a photo I.D. Pick up a Fingerprint Authorization to fingerprint offsite.
If a volunteer changes the school at which he or she is volunteering, the security clearance information can be transferred from the old school to the new school by contacting Michele Hernandez in the LCPS Human Resources Office at (575) 527-5973. All volunteers’ security clearance information is on file at the LCPS Central Office, 505 S. Main St., in the Loretto Town Center. Each volunteer’s security clearance remains valid unless he or she has not volunteered for a period of one calendar year or more. In that case, a new security clearance must be completed.
When all paperwork is completed and turned in to the Human Resources Office, a clearance form will be sent to the School Volunteer Coordinator and school site.
* EXCEPTIONS
The FBI Criminal History Background Check may be waived if one of the following exceptions applies. If you qualify for an exception, contact the Human Resources Office.
