The Las Cruces Public Schools Athletic Program is committed to the “Pursuing Victory With Honor” Campaign
The LCPS Athletic Program is committed to excellence in academics and athletics. We are dedicated to the Pursuing Victory With Honor program, to adhering to the rules of competition and sportsmanship, and to practicing the Six Pillars of Character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship – on and off the playing field.
As student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators, we understand that participation in the athletic program is a privilege. We gladly accept our responsibility to be role models, to exercise self-discipline, and to be hardworking, prepared, persevering, empathetic, courageous, fair, and self-sacrificing team players. We will give our best effort in all that we do for our schools, our teams, and ourselves. We will win with honor, lose with grace, and strive through both to bring pride and respect to our schools, our sport, our teammates, our adversaries, and ourselves.
The LCPS Athletic Department is proud to announce its involvement with the Pursuing Victory With Honor campaign to build character through our sports program. This unique program has made a major impact on sportsmanship in sports nationwide. We need to continually realize that interscholastic athletics are games in a classroom setting, very different from other organized sports.
We want this program to send the right message to our Las Cruces community and the public. Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship are essential in athletics, despite what we may see from our professional and collegiate athletes. It is important that students and adults join us in this joint effort. Sportsmanship does not begin and end with coaches and student-athletes. Parents and spectators are also involved. Behavior in the stands, on the sidelines, and during the athletic contests must be exemplary.
When it comes to sportsmanship, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and fans must collectively accept their responsibility as role models.
