Wall of Champions

The Executive Committee of the Field of Dreams Task Force uniquely designed and developed the Wall of Champions. The intent of this unique mission is to honor and recognize the outstanding achievements and accomplishments of the LCPS student-athletes and community members who have Made A Difference. The Wall of Champions is located inside the Field of Dreams Stadium at the south end of the field.

Wall of ChampionsThe motto of the Las Cruces Public Schools Athletic Department is “Developing Champions For A Lifetime.” The Wall of Champions depicts the hard work, team effort, character development, and commitment practiced and demonstrated by all our student-athletes to be champions for a lifetime. We do not alone measure the success of a specific team or individual by the number of state championships that are won. We measure success by the continued increase in student participation and the academic, athletic, and social achievements that our student-athletes enjoy through their interscholastic experiences.

The Wall of Champions does recognize by individual names all teams and individual participants who have won State Championships. Beginning with the 1941 LCHS Boys Basketball State Championship and the 1950 State Track Championship performance of LCHS’ Artie Robertson to the 2004 Mayfield High School State Volleyball Championship and the 17 individual State Championship performances in 2005, the Wall of Champions proudly displays and represents 203 State Champion individuals and 50 State Champion teams. Each state champion team plaque lists the names of the players and coaches.

Additionally, the Wall of Champions recognizes the Joint Partnership that combined together to design, develop, and build our Field of Dreams Sports Complex. There are eight plaques with the individual names of community supporters that made the concerted effort to improve the quality of life for our students and their families.

Wall of ChampionsThe Wall of Champions proudly identifies four individuals who are “Our Heroes.” Sandra McGrath, Howard Klein, Rudy Camunez, and Ben Rios were instrumental in providing our kids with opportunities to achieve their goals and realize their dreams. Each of “our Heroes” MADE A DIFFERENCE.

Four LCPS coaches have been elected into the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor. Three of our athletic people have received national recognition. Seven LCPS administrators have received various New Mexico Activities Association awards and honors. Each of the above mentioned people are also recognized on the Wall of Champions.
