Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Greg Ewing recently spoke to members of the SUCCESS Partnership and shared many of the district’s successes and strategic initiatives moving forward. The meeting took place on Tuesday, May 22, at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the local nonprofit community, early childhood education and development organizations, and the healthcare sector. Faculty members and administrators from New Mexico State University and other elected officials were also in attendance.

Ewing stressed many of the same points he explained to lawmakers from the Legislative Education Study Committee earlier this month, including:

  • Las Cruces Public Schools’ 85.5 percent four-year graduation rate — the highest of any district in New Mexico.
  • Ongoing efforts to implement community schools throughout the district.
  • The district’s ongoing efforts to improve school safety and security across all campuses.
  • Efforts to institute restorative practices districtwide as a way of identifying and correcting behavioral problems while addressing underlying issues.

Ewing thanked members of the partnership for their ongoing commitment to the students of Doña Ana County, adding that their hard work is appreciated by LCPS.

“It really does take a whole community,” Ewing said. “Our students do better when they are surrounded by a community that cares about their education.”

The SUCCESS Partnership is an education initiative founded in 2013. It is a diverse group of more than 100 cross-sector organizations comprised of parents, education professionals, nonprofit organizations, businesses, regional partners and community leaders who are committed to providing education in Doña Ana County.
