Earlier this year, students from the Mayfield High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter earned a total of 15 individual and team awards at the State FFA Career Development Event at New Mexico State University.

“All of the students did a great job representing Mayfield,” said LCPS Career Specialist Kim O’Byrne. “Their success shows just how much hard work, talent and dedication went into preparing for the state competition. Congratulations to all of these hardworking FFA members!”

The statewide competition, which was only open to students who qualified at the local level, tested students on their knowledge and practical skills within each respective competition category.

The 37 MHS FFA members who competed in the state competition earned the following awards:

Agricultural Mechanics

  • 2nd Place (Team)
  • Hayden Menges – Highest Score (individual)
  • Rosa Taylor – 3rd Highest Score (individual)

Agronomy

  • 6th Place (Team)

Dairy Cattle

  • 7th Place (Team)

Floriculture

  • 13th Place (Team)

Horse Evaluation Team

  • 10th Place (Team)
  • Colton Priest – Highest Score and $500 scholarship winner (individual)
  • Rosa Taylor – 3rd Highest Score (individual)

Veterinary Science Team

  • 5th Place (Team 1)
  • 11th Place (Team 2)

Wildlife Team

  • 2nd Place (Team 1)
  • 7th Place (Team 2)
  • Breanna Simpson – Highest Score (individual)
  • Kelsey Graves – 5th Highest Score (individual)
