Earlier this month, Leave it Local, Las Cruces donated 450 sensory integration items to the LCPS Special Student Services department, to help support students with cognitive and physical disabilities. Leave it Local, Las Cruces is a business designed to connect Las Cruces consumers with locally-owned businesses.
“These sensory integration items are important occupational therapy tools for our students with sensory processing issues,” said Glenda Rodriguez, Assistant Superintendent of Special Student Services department. “Since there’s a consistent need for these items in the schools, this donation helps support students and teachers throughout the district.”
Candice Butler, Leave it Local, Las Cruces co-founder, explained that, as a former educator, she recognized the importance of the items in an educational setting and donated the items as a way to give back to the school community. All of the items were purchased using funds collected during a recent Leave it Local, Las Cruces fundraising event and silent auction, according to Butler.
