As a way to honor past and present military service members, students throughout Doña Ana Elementary School sang songs, recited poems and shared letters of and art projects veterans for their service as the part of the school’s Sixth Annual Veterans Day Celebration Tuesday, Nov. 2.

“The celebration is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our veterans for their service to our country,” said DAES Principal Cherie Love. “The students did an amazing job singing and veterans shared personal stories that brought tears to our eyes.”

The celebration kicked off with a pancake breakfast, donated by International House of Pancakes (IHOP), followed by a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and student performances of patriotic songs. Students also greeted the veterans in attendance with cards, letters and art projects to thank them for their service.

As part of the celebration, several of the veterans in attendance shared their stories and experiences with students.
