The District Advisory Council (DAC) will meet Thursday, Nov. 16 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Sierra Middle School library, 1700 Spruce Ave. The meeting will feature discussions about the implementation of restorative justice practices, a presentation about the district’s International Welcome Centers, and a discussion about Regulation KCB-R: School Advisory Councils. The DAC consists of parents, teachers, staff and community members who will meet bi-monthly basis, which equates to two meetings each semester. They discuss educational issues and provide feedback to the Superintendent and Board of Education with the goal of improving LCPS schools.
Jaime Calderon, director of community relations and senior advisor to the superintendent and board of education, explained that, throughout the year, the group typically discusses key topics such as school safety and the district budget. At the conclusion of each meeting, participants will be given a series of probing questions to take back and discuss with their School Advisory Councils (SAC), which are similar to PTO or PTAs. Data collected from those questions will then be returned and disseminated to the Superintendent and/or School Board.
The DAC encourages anyone interested to attend.
