Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Greg Ewing has announced 12 new school principal assignments and nine new assistant principal assignments for the 2017-18 school year.

“We have a new cadre of exceptional instructional leaders,” Ewing said. “This infusion of enthusiasm, talent and educational experience will make a huge impact on our district.”

The new principals come from a variety of backgrounds. Ewing said some are current principals who have moved to a different school, some were assistant principals who have moved up, and some are new to Las Cruces.

The new principals and their schools are as follows:        

Booker T. Washington Elementary, Monica Marquez;

Central Elementary, Michael Chaires;

Columbia Elementary, Michelle Valdez;

Conlee Elementary, Sonia Campo;

Fairacres Elementary, Gail Estrada;

Highland Elementary, Joan Howard;

Hillrise Elementary, Karen Hite;

Jornada Elementary, Vangie Barela;

MacArthur Elementary, Yuri Castillo;

Valley View Elementary, Eloisa Solis;

White Sands School, Juile Maestas;

Zia Middle School, Joel Aguilar Villanueva.
