Back to School Registration and Orientations Set

More than 24,000 students in the Las Cruces Public Schools will head back to school in the coming days for the 2017-18 school year, with the first day of classes for most students on Monday, August 14.  Kindergarten and preschool students will begin Aug. 15 and Aug. 16, respectively, while Arrowhead Park Early College High School and Arrowhead Park Medical Academy will begin their fall classes on Wednesday, Aug. 16, officials said.

While teachers and many other district staff return to work on Tuesday, Aug. 9, the dates for student registration, schedule pickups, student and parent orientation and starting dates are as follows:

Elementary:

  • Parents should check with their individual schools for registration and schedule pick up information.
  • Thursday, Aug. 10: Registration for kindergarten through 5th grades is 9-11 a.m.; Bus routes and times, meal applications, supply lists, and visits with teachers are available; No bus service is available;
  • Monday, Aug. 14: Classes begin for 1st-through-5th grades, while kindergarten students will have a transition day;
  • Tuesday, Aug. 15: kindergarten classes begin, while preschool students will have their transition day;
  • Wednesday, Aug. 16: preschool classes begin.

Middle Schools:

  • Parents should check with their individual schools for registration and schedule pick up information.
  • Mesilla Valley Leadership Academy: Will hold a New Student Induction Day, Thursday, Aug. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 400 West Bell Ave.; All student schedules will be distributed on the first day of school.
  • Thursday, Aug. 10: 6th graders and their parents will attend an orientation and will pick up their schedules beginning at 6:00 p.m. at their child’s school.
  • Monday, Aug. 14: Classes begin for 6th-through-8th grades;

Arrowhead Park Early College High School and Arrowhead Medical Academy:

Located on the New Mexico State University campus, the two schools follow a schedule based on the NMSU academic year and the calendar is different from the LCPS calendar.

  • Thursday, Aug. 10 through Tuesday, Aug. 15: Summer break.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 16: Fall semester classes begin at 9 a.m.

All Other LCPS High Schools:

  • Monday, Aug. 14: Classes begin for 9th-through-12th grade students
  • Any high school student who is new to LCPS should register immediately. Returning students who selected their classes last spring will pick up their class schedules on the following dates and times:
  • Centennial High: Class schedules will be distributed from 8:30-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1 for juniors and seniors; Wednesday, Aug. 2 for sophomores, and Thursday, Aug. 3 for freshman; Wednesday, Aug. 9: Freshmen orientation will be at 6 p.m. in the main gymnasium.
  • Las Cruces High: Class schedules for sophomores, juniors and seniors will be available on Monday, Aug. 7 through StudentVue, or can be picked up in person on Monday, Aug. 7 and Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the LCHS Skybridge area of the main building; Freshmen will pick up class schedules and tour the school during orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.
  • Mayfield High: Class schedules will be distributed on Tuesday, Aug. 8 for seniors and juniors; seniors from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and juniors from 12:30-3:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, Aug. 9 for sophomores and freshman; sophomores from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and freshman from 12:30-3:30 p.m. followed by freshman orientation at 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the main gymnasium. In order to receive a schedule, all registration packet forms must be filled out and turned in on the distribution day.
  • Oñate High: Class schedules will be distributed on Monday, Aug. 7 for juniors and seniors; Tuesday, Aug. 8 for freshman and sophomores, and Wednesday, Aug. 9 for anyone who couldn’t attend the previous registration sessions. Registration days will depend on the day(s) designated in your children’s registration packets, which were mailed out during the summer. In order to receive a schedule, all registration packet forms must be filled out and turned in on the distribution day. Freshman orientation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 6:00 p.m. in the main gymnasium.
  • Rio Grande Preparatory Institute: Class schedules will be distributed on the first day of classes, Monday, Aug. 14.
