LAS CRUCES—New Mexico State Police officers will gladly accept a free donut when they participate in the Jornada Elementary School event “Donuts with Dad,” beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24.  School officials said the event will take place in the school cafeteria, 3400 Elks Drive.

First-grade teacher Andrea Baker said fathers and grandfathers of the school’s first-graders have been invited to join their children for breakfast. Students who don’t have a father will be able to eat with a “State Trooper, so they can feel supported, as well.”

“This event is to thank the dads and granddads for all they do to help our students succeed in school,” Baker said. “We want parents to know that they are appreciated and this event helps them bond with the children.”

“This is important for us, as the New Mexico State Police strives to be true public servants,” said George Bernal of the New Mexico State Police. “Events such as this one provide us an opportunity to show the public that we do more than hand out citations.”

Earlier this month, Jornada also had a celebration with mothers during a Muffins for Moms event.
