Rio Grande Preparatory Institute (RGPI) is giving the community a chance to get started on those New Year’s health and fitness resolutions by hosting the Second Annual For the Love of Fitness Day, a community health and fitness fair, Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at RGPI, 2355 Avenida de Mesilla.
“We started this event to promote fitness and develop community partners,” said RGPI Principal Kathie Davis. “It also gives our students an opportunity to organize an event from the ground up.”
The event will feature a wide variety of health and fitness activities for all ages, both inside and outside of the school. Although the event is free to attend for all LCPS families and employees, community members who wish to attend are expected to contribute a donation to support schoolwide extracurricular activities.
Outside of the school, there will be fitness activities for all ages including: an outdoor obstacle course, a climbing wall, a jumping balloon, a ninja obstacle course, a cow milking station and a horse petting station.
Inside of the school, there will free diabetes screenings, free vision screenings, free blood pressure screenings, a smoothie station and other health-related resources. Eight local gyms will also host rotating workout sessions every 30 minutes, starting at 10 a.m., inside the school gymnasium.
RGPI would like to thank the following organizations for their support: the LCPS Health & Nutrition Services Department, the Navy, the National Guard, the Army, the City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department, The Gym, 9 Round Boxing, Ellen Kemp Studio, Guzman Karate, Gold Medal Taekwondo, Total Body Bar and Fitness One.
