Halloween Festivals and City Firemen Urge Safety
Thousands of children will be roaming through neighborhoods pretending to be as witches, princesses, Minions, zombies and dozens of other characters as they trick-or-treat for Halloween. Some LCPS schools are holding fall festivals to keep children safe. In addition, the Las Cruces Fire Department will offer free glow sticks for kids who are trick-or-treating.
The glow sticks can be attached to costumes or worn around a wrist, according to the City Police Department. Properly worn, the glow sticks help trick-or-treaters become more visible to motorists and homeowners the evening of Halloween.
Free glow sticks will be available at Las Cruces fire stations 1-6 from 10 a.m. to sundown beginning Thursday, Oct. 29. Glow sticks are limited to one per child and are available only while supplies last.
The glow sticks will be available at these Las Cruces fire stations:
Station 1 – 201 E. Picacho Ave.
Station 2 – 1199 E. Foster Rd.
Station 3 – 390 N. Valley Dr.
Station 4 – 2802 E. Missouri Ave.
Station 5 – 5998 Bataan Memorial East
Station 6 – 2750 Northrise Dr.
Regardless of whether children attend a school event or trick-or-treat in their neighborhoods, we hope all adults will keep an eye out for all children, said Todd Gregory, LCPS Safety & Security Coordinator.
