LAS CRUCES – It will be a packed house in the Doña Ana Community College’s East Mesa branch auditorium, 2800 Sonoma Ranch Blvd., Monday evening, November 18, 2013 as about 280 parents graduate from the LCPS Institute for Parent Engagement (IPE), said IPE Coordinator Olga Hawkins. The graduation will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on the LCPS website.

Parents will graduate from Mayfield High School, Lynn and Mesa middle schools and Conlee, Doña Ana and Valley View elementaries in the second year of the program. Last spring, 180 parents graduated from the first ever IPE classes at Lynn and Mayfield.

Camino Real Middle School Principal Ralph Ramos will serve as the November 18 graduation master of ceremonies, which will include 12 parent graduates as keynote speakers – two from each participating school. Superintendent Stan Rounds will also speak, and members of the LCPS Board of Education will be in attendance. Graduating parents will receive a medal, an IPE certificate of completion and a certificate signed by New Mexico State University President Dr. Garrey Carruthers. NMSU Associate Director of Admissions Delia Prieto De Leon also will attend the graduation ceremony.

The Oñate High School Navy JROTC Color Guard will present the colors to begin the evening’s program. Entertainment will be provided by Las Cruces High School Mariachi Diamante, directed by Jennifer Rogers; the Mayfield High School Jazz Band, directed by Britta Wollard; and the Mayfield Madrigal Singers, directed by Derek Gilmour.

“The LCPS IPE program continues to grow and evolve,” said Hawkins. Our goal is to offer the program at all LCPS schools in an effort to improve attendance, graduation rates and academic achievement and to create opportunities for all children to attend college or a university. Eight more schools are slated to join IPE in the spring of 2014,” she said.
