Fairacres Little League Reaches Regional Finals
LAS CRUCES – The Fairacres All-Stars team won the 2013 Little League district and state titles and made it all the way to the championship game in the Little League Southwest Regional Tournament, Aug 2-7, 2013 in Waco, TX, said team parent Debra Tellez.
Members of the team – the first Little League team from Las Cruces in 40 years, said Tellez – were, from Camino Real Middle School: Justin Almaguer and Dominic Tellez; from Lynn Middle School: Matt Giles; from Picacho Middle School: Ryan Rosales and Benito Garcia; from Vista Middle School: Justin Lopez: from Zia Middle School: Ivan Molina, Kaden Palmer, Fernando Loera, Jeremiah Apodaca and Wilson Bannister; and from Mesilla Valley Christian School: Noah Coyle and Josh Castillo. The team also consists of manager Scott Bannister and coaches Deryl Palmer and Jay Rosales.
If the Fairacres team had beaten Universal Little League of Corpus Christi (Texas West) in the Southwest Regional Championship, it would have advanced to the Little League World Series, which will be held August 15-25 in Williamsport, PA.
The Fairacres team beat teams from Copper, Silver City and Deming to become district champs, then went on to beat Las Vegas, Carlsbad and Albuquerque (twice) to win the state championship and represent New Mexico in the Little League Regional Tournament, said Tellez. The semi-finals and finals were shown on ESPN2.
