Summer Reading Kickoff Is June 15
LAS CRUCES – The Children’s Reading Foundation of Doña Ana County (CRFDAC) and the Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico will host a summer reading kickoff event called “Read Up: Stop the Summer Slide” 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 in the Community Action Agency building, 3880 Foothills Road, Suite A in Las Cruces.
The event will include free food and drinks, activities for children, benefits screenings, storybook readings, giveaway items and free books for children.
“The Children’s Reading Foundation is implementing a U.S. Department of Education grant through its national office, and we are giving away 49,499 books across the county,” said Sra. Maria Flores, CRFDAC president and vice president of the LCPS Board of Education. “A child, ages 0-eight, can receive a free book for eight weeks, at any of the locations in this area, including city parks, county centers, several schools in LCPS and the Gadsden Independent School District, Brannigan Library and Hatch Library. Come and find the location nearest to your family, and plan to attend to hear a story, get a free book and get a small gift, reminding us all to ‘Read with a child 20 minutes a day.’ This a great way for families to start their home library,” she said.
