LAS CRUCES – Seven LCPS middle schools will participate in the 2013 LCPS Spring Knowledge Bowl Invitational, which will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Picacho Middle School, 1040 N. Motel Blvd., said Picacho teacher and event co-sponsor Merrilee Saige.

Here’s the schedule of events for the day:

· 8:00 a.m.: Instruction session for moderators, time and score keepers (library)

· 8:00 a.m-1:00 p.m.: Concession stand open

· 8:30 a.m.: Team check in, breakfast for participants (cafeteria)

· 8:45 a.m.: “Mock game” (cafeteria)

· 9:00 a.m.: Games begin (classrooms)

A total of 27 teams from Camino Real, Lynn, Mesa, Picacho, Sierra, Vista and Zia middle schools will participate, including eight sixth-grade teams, six seventh-grade teams and 13 eighth-grade teams.

First-, second- and third-place trophies will be presented to winners in each grade level.            Individual medals will be awarded for first-, second- and third place in each grade level.

To minimize distractions for participants, a one-minute warning will be given prior to the start of each 20-minute game, said Saige. The doors of the classroom in which the game is being played will be locked and spectators will not be allowed to enter or leave the room once the game begins.
