Redistricting is necessary due to the construction of three new schools: an elementary
school on Peachtree Hills Road, which will open in August 2010; a middle school on Jornada
Road near Peachtree Hills Road, which will open in fall 2010; and a high school on Sonoma
Ranch Boulevard near Dripping Springs Road, which will open in August 2011.

Superintendent Stan Rounds greets members of the LCPS Redistricting
Committee. They will recommend proposed boundary lines for elementary
and middle schools to the Board of Education.

The LCPS High School Redistricting Advisory Committee will be made up
of representatives appointed by each member of the LCPS Board of Education, along with school district staff,
administrators and volunteers, to advise the board on the redistricting of all elementary and middle schools. The committee’s boundary recommendations for elementary and middle schools will be
conveyed to the school board.
Committee members will include parents, business people, school administrators, teachers,
and community residents.
LCPS Associate Superintendent for Operations Herb Torres will coordinate technical
assistance for the committee. Architectural Research Consultants (ARC) of Albuquerque will
provide demographic and mapping data to the board and the committee.
The LCPS Redistricting Advisory Committee will consider several scenarios as it looks for the best way to create new school boundaries during the next several months.
Public hearings will
be conducted so that parents and the community can look at the proposed boundary maps and ask
questions about the new attendance zones.Translation services will be provided at the hearings.
